My AHA to this was the statement in bold on page 6, “Education is too important to be taken seriously.” I showed this to my husband, the principal of a high school, and he went through the roof! My husband wants to see structure and energy out of his teachers. I see both sides of this. I understand we need to be high energy and excited about the learning, this will transfer to our students. However, we still need to maintain structure to the learning environment. We still need to use effective classroom practices and maintain an atmosphere focused on learning. This is truer in the secondary grades than the primary grades. For my Spanish classroom, I do all sorts of fun things because my curriculum allows me to do that. If I were teaching other subjects, I know I would have to really search for ideas. I hope this class helps with that.
After taking the quiz, I found myself on the right path. I have a few classes that are pretty stressful that make me look forward to retirement! I definitely agree that on any given day my quiz answers would be different. It is very difficult to always be doing this job for the kids everyday you are in front of students. However, from there I think about how special every teaching moment is when you see the student say “AHA!”
